Problem: PowerBar's icon during the "march of the inits" shows and giant red 'X' through it. PowerBar is not installed. Why?
Cause: One of several factors (described below) is causing PowerBar NOT to be installed.
Solution: Make sure all of the following statements are true about your setup (quoted names mean that the folders to which they refer must have the EXACT same name):
1) The âPowerBar Folderâ is in the System Folder:Preferences Folder.
2) You are running System 7.0 or greater.
3) You have not disabled Extensions by pressing the SHIFT key or holding down the mouse button during startup.
4) You have sufficient memory (4Mb recommended for System 7, 8Mb or more STRONGLY RECOMMENDED).
Problem: The toolbar doesn't show up on the screen, but the PowerBar icon marched with the rest of the INITs and there is a PowerBar menu.
Cause: The Option key was probably held down during startup or when the PowerBar icon itself âmarchedâ. This prevents the toolbar from being created.
Solution: Select âCreate PowerBarâ from the PowerBar menu (the first menu option, which is normally âHide/Show Toolbarâ). The toolbar will be created.
Problem: The toolbar does not show up where it was last positioned; in fact, it appears in some whacked out place half off the screen!
Cause: The PowerBar preferences file is most likely damaged.
Solution: Remove the PowerBar preferences file from the PowerBar Folder which is in the Preferences Folder in the System Folder. A new prefs file will eventually be created (like when you move the toolbar to where it was supposed to be).
Problem: When dragging a document icon to one of the application buttons, either nothing happens, or the application is started but the document is not opened or a document of gibberish is opened.
Cause: The application can not open the type of document you dragged to it. Only documents that an application is capable of opening can be dropped onto the application's PowerBar button successfully.
Solution: Drag only documents that the application was designed to open onto the application's PowerBar button.
Problem: Even though a QuicKey⢠button was installed, the thing is never triggered once its button was clicked (but I did hear a system beep).
Cause: You probably did not name the QuicKey that you included on the toolbar so that it matches EXACTLY the name you gave the QuicKey itself..
Solution: Rename the button to exactly match the name of the QuicKey you want to trigger (press COMMAND+OPTION and click the button to rename it).
Problem: When PowerBar is installed, some function or other (or all) of another nifty neetsie-keeno INIT is disabled or I just plain CRASH.
Cause: Ah, hah! An INIT conflict! (Don't you love 'em?!)
Solution: Try switching the loading order of the other INIT and PowerBar. If that doesn't help, choose which utility you can live without (if any) and report the conflict to PowerBar's author (contact information provided below), who will expeditiously attempt to resolve the conflict (hopefully with the assistance of the other INIT's creator).
Problem: I want to move the Status Pads around, but I canât figure out how!
Cause: A less than intuitive method used to drag Status Pads was implemented. Sorry :-P
Solution: Click the small icon that appears on the left side of each pad and drag to a new location.
Problem: I can't drag & drop to my PowerBar toolbar! (I am using System 7 Pro.)
Cause: Drag & Drop does not work with System 7 Pro unless you have the Macintosh Drag & Drop⢠Extenstion installed.
Solution: Install the Macintosh Drag & Drop extension and restart your Macintosh.
